Fantastic Barrel, 9 out of 10 a great shooter!
Nice early Enfield Sht. L.E. III*. Has been FTR’ed. Barrel stamped 1 44 with Lithgow marks. And also stamped 8/50. HV SC stamped on barrel behind rear sight. Original receiver serial number has been stamped through, and new number (done when FTR) applied. The letters SA(?) has been stamped on the top of front receiver ring over arrow marks and DD.
New number matching on Bolt, Receiver and Stock. No number on nose cap. Enfield markings on butt stock, plus Commonwealth of Australia seal. New serial number and 4 (4th Military District?) stamped over top.
Bore is fantastic, one of the best we have seen! A 9 out of 10. Bright and shiny, looks amazing.
Mechanically all good, in 100% working order.
Woodwork has the usual bumps and dings consistent with a 108 year old rifle that has been well looked after. Some patina to metalwork as expected.
Has been used as a target rifle. Back of stock near safety has been relived for aperture sight mount, rear sight guard ears have been unscrewed and removed.
Previous owner believes this was a rifle given to a SA big bore rifle club after the war by the government, and then later used by cadets, but cannot confirm.
A really nice example, would make a fantastic shooter for Military rifle etc.
